Detroit embarrassed by Arizona, skid up to 4 games

Summary:
Detroit started the game like a team with no direction, no focus, and absolutely no motivation. The warning has been not to look past Arizona, but the team did just that. Veleno’s time on the top line should be over. He mishandled puck after puck as Debrincat missed the net over and over. The decisions LaLonde makes with the lineup seem to be uninspired, and the team looked the same.

Yzerman’s decision to look at “organizational depth” looks even worse as the team has lost 4 straight and look like they have no idea what they are doing on the ice. There is no spin that makes this any better. This was ghastly example of a coach who cannot make in game decisions and a team that cannot find a way forward with Larkin out of the lineup. No one has stepped up. If anything, they look more disconnected than ever.

For some fans, the good news is that Berggren was called up even after Yzerman said he was looking for a “physical presence” to replace what Kostin was supposed to be. Regardless, the team that has given up 11 goals in 2 games on this road trip looks like they’re have checked out. Neither game saw a team that looked prepared to hit the ice.

This may be the signal of what the last stretch will be. Just loss after loss until it’s too late to recover. No one in the organization took the reins to try and adjust this stretch.

I feel bad for every Wings fan in attendance after having to see that (and there were quite a few). This was a game they needed to step up and it was an absolute flop. Even that feels like to kind of a statement for what was presented. The team that was chugging along looks to have fallen apart. It was a terrible performance. No excuse.
