Cap Hell No More

Celebrate and rejoice Kings fans and especially Kings management.

The NHL decided today to allow the Kings to remove Slava Voynov's cap hit from the books in a way similar to a player going on LTIR

The Kings will receive just over $4 million dollars in cap space, which has been much needed ever since the slew of injuries to the blue line. The Kings have operated at least twice this year with 5 defensemen.

However, with this move by the NHL the Kings are no longer being punished for a situation that had nothing to do with them in the first place.

Why it took so long for both the PA or the league to act is beyond me. Let's be frank, there is no way the Kings should have had to deal with the repercussions of an off-ice mistake by one of their players. Yes they employ him, but they don't control him.

This all comes just one day after the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office decided to formally charge Voynov with Domestic Violence.

With the signing of McBain the Kings have seemed in less dire straights, but they are still without Alec Martinez due to a finger injury and playing with just six defenseman.

There might be a call-up within the next day or so depending on the timetable for Alec Martinez's return.

It was pretty clear from some of the statements by Dean Lombardi that the team was unhappy with how the NHL and the NHLPA was handling the situation but at least they have received some form of relief. Even if it is a little bit late.
