Senators silenced by Bobrovsky

Mike Condon got a late Christmas gift on Tuesday in Tampa with a nice 7 goal support, but on Saturday his teammates were back to their familiar ways that have left Condon with the lowest goal support in the league.

An Alexandre Burrows tap-in after Sergei Bobrovsky fumbled a diving attempt to freeze the puck was all the offense the Senators could muster and it wasn't enough as the Blue Jackets came back with a goal in the second and one in the third to take 2-1.

Condon made 33 saves for the loss, while Bobrovsky faced just 24 shots as the Blue Jackets won their 7th straight and gave themsevles some breathing room in the Wild Card race over the Panthers, who lost to Edmonton to create a 5 point cushion for the Blue Jackets.

Ottawa was denied their opportunity for a fourth straight win that would have been a season high, and would there have been a more Senators thing to do than to set a season high win streak after they are all but officially eliminated from the playoffs and rising in the standings to lessen their chance of nabbing the first overall pick?

It was a tough night for the Senators offensively, but even more so for Ryan Dzingel, as he left the game after taking a Mike Hoffman shot to the back of the head. Fortunately, it was deflected which took some of the steam off it, and his helmet absorbed most of the impact, although it was hard enough to knock the "8" decal off the back of his helmet. It was a scary couple of minutes with him prone on the ice, and it was nice to see him skate off under his own power, and he was described as "fine" by Guy Boucher after the game.

The Senators have a couple of days off before starting a three game homestand that will see Florida, Edmonton and Carolina come through town, and amazingly there are no back to backs in that stretch, after they have had 3 straight sets in the last couple of weeks.
