Karlsson Denied

Don't be mad.

Although I consider it a bit of an upset, and stated so yesterday that if Erik Karlsson didn't win his third Norris that it would be, I am not shocked, or even upset.

What did surprise me was how little "respect" Brent Burns received. Even with the wave of "he deserves to win one" groundswell of support for Doughty, I expected Burns to take more of the vote than 3 first place votes and eat into some of Doughty's west coast support. Burns probably had as good, if not better, of a season as Doughty so that took me aback when I saw the voting results.

So Karlsson didn't bring home any hardware, but life goes on. It would have been nice to see, from a Senators perspective, but it also would have been the first time a player on a non-playoff team won the award and that probably played a part in the minds of voters.

I just don't want to see or hear the "Karlsson will have a chip on his shoulder now" or even the "Karlsson was robbed" statements. You win some, you lose some, just like the games themselves, and sometimes you win the ones you shouldn't and lose the ones you probably deserved.

Congratulations and hats off to Drew Doughty for winning his first Norris Trophy. The voters had their say, whether you agree with the results or not, that is the system.

Two days to the draft and then the opening of free agency a week or so after that.
