I guess the drama of the year away has truly been forgiven, as the Ottawa Community has added a couple more honors on former Captain Daniel Alfredsson.

On Friday, Alfie was inducted into the Ottawa Sports Hall of Fame in the annual ceremony, and this week he will be given an Honorary Doctorate of Laws degree from Carleton University.

All that is left is for his #11 to be raised to the rafters of Canadian Tire Centre. That one is a given, but I still wonder if he has done enough to warrant induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame.

From my point of view and most of those in the Senators bubble the answer would be a resounding "Yes" but I am not sure that feeling resonates far enough to be included.

By the numbers:

444 Goals - 62nd All-Time - 13 eligible players have more but not in HHOF
713 Assists - 49th All-Time - 6 eligible players have more but not in HHOF
1,157 Points - 51st All-Time - 7 eligible players have more but not in HHOF

The fact that he did most of it with 1 team, and was the first real star of that franchise would weigh heavily in his favor, but does the one year departure where he played in Detroit tarnish that at all?

He doesn't have a Stanley Cup, and has 1 Finals appearance.

He also has a great international record, playing in 5 Olympics for Sweden, and holds a Gold and a Silver medal, as well as 7 World Championships, with 2 Silvers and 2 Bronze medals.

So while he will eventually get the highest honour a franchise can bestow upon a player, will he get the highest honour a player can get?
