Coyotes Sign Domingue, Qualify a Few and Ditch a Few

Just got back from my daughter's soccer game. She's seven, so except for the ultra-competitive ass-clown who coaches the black team, the games are so fun and happy and nice. The kids basically just all group together, completely ignore positional responsibility and chase the ball in a pack.

It's massively entertaining and really shows how crappy it is that everything eventually has to become a competition. No one ever keeps score, the kids all think their team is winning and no one does anything dirty or cheap or mean. They just run around like a bunch of clueless fools chasing the ball and being seven.

Kind of makes you sad that in just a year or two (unless your play on the black team) coaches will be playing the good kids more, sticking the duds in net or on defense and parents will be yelling insane things and acting like jerks.

Anyways, this has absolutely nothing to do with hockey, and likely no one cares, but...I don't know....I was hesitant to sign her up because she'd never played before, but it's really kind of a beautiful thing.

Lindros finally made the Hall of fame. Good for him, but it's ridiculous and petty that he wasn't inducted the first day he was eligible.

Also, I wish it was Saturday already so I wouldn't have to listen to/ hear / read / see anything else about Stamkos or where he will sign. He's the like the hockey equivalent of the Brexit, the Zika Virus and a facebook video of a waterskiing cat all combined into one thing no one can stop themselves from talking about.

The real reason I am here is tonight at this late hour is to inform you that the Coyotes have signed goalie Louis Domingue to a two-year deal, and that (apparently) he and Mike Smith will be the Coyotes goalies to start the season, according to GM John Chayka.

I say apparently because GMs constantly dissemble so I don't trust a damn thing a one of them says. Personally, I think the Coyotes would be remiss if they didn't try to acquire James Reimer, but no one is taking Smith's contract, so they're probably a bit stuck.

I got nothing against Smith (except who has the last name Smith and is so boring and generic they go with 'Mike'?) except that he is going to be the de facto starter and at this point he probably doesn't deserve to be. Not like he is terrible or anything, but he's just going to get paid colossally, be average and get hurt a bunch. Woo hoo.

Buying him out wouldn't be the worst strategy.

As for the other RFA's that they had to qualify, they did qualify Stone, Murphy and Reider.

They did not qualify Klas Dahlbeck, and let me be the first to thank whatever savior you think I should. This is like the time on the Office when Michael finally got rid of Toby.

Also gone is Jared "Where's the Beach?" Tinordi, and a bunch of dudes who's names aren't worth learning now.

Chayka did say he may try to sign some of the now UFAs to less than their qualifying offers, but damn girl, I hope not.

Anyways, George Jones is the best. Little known fact: he was once drafted by the Hartford Whalers.

Thanks and good night.

I'll be here all week.
