Coyotes Sign Hollweg

The Phoenix Coyotes today announced that they have signed Ryan Hollweg to a one year deal. I knew something was going on when I arrived at practice and he was on the ice. He participated in the teams camp and was just sent to the AHL camp last week. Today he shared ice time with what looks to be the 4th line.

Today during practice the following lines were skating together so I have to wonder is this our preview for the opening night line up?

Shane Doan, Vernon Fiddler and Lauri Korpikoski

This group skated really well together and was making clean crisp passes. Fiddler has great hands, Korpikoski can flat out fly down the ice and “Captain Coyote” Shane Doan is looking like a kid again on the ice.

Peter Mueller, Matthew Lombardi and Scottie Upshall

The interesting thing with this combo is that Mueller and Lombardi are both listed as Centers. With an abundance of Centers will we see Mueller staying on the wing again this year? If so I really like this line, they seem to almost know where each other is going already. You have speed and grit from all three of them and each can put the puck in the net

Petr Prucha, Martin Hanzal and Radim Vrbata

Our Czeching line has been together most of the camp and of all the combinations you see here this one will be the same opening night and I think they will be our Shut down line. Hanzal has grown into his big frame, he is looking more and more comfortable on the ice each time I see him. Prucha and Vrbata play both ends of the ice well and each has the scoring touch.

Daniel Winnik, Kevin Porter, Mikkel Boedker and Ryan Hollweg

This group of players makes me wonder since all of them are listed as Wingers. I feel Porter could make the transition to a 4th line center. I would enjoy watching this line grow together this year. Winnik and Boedker both took some great passes from Porter. This group was going 100MPH from the start to the end of practice.

Was another good hard practice today with Coach Tippet actually skating in amongst the players. He was skating and dumping the puck in when we worked on transition plays. Towards the end of practice we started working on the PP and he was an integral part of this. The PP will be his “baby”. I was really pleased to see how vocal all the coaches were in practice.

The only player left that we have not accounted for Taylor Pyatt. He is still out with a lower body injury. I for one will find it very interesting to see where he ends up.
