Who Should Be More Concerned: Anaheim Ducks or Los Angeles Kings?

Both the Anaheim Ducks and Los Angeles Kings entered the season with high expectations but they've combined for just three wins in 11 games.

In this edition of the hotstove we discuss which California team should be more concerned with the slow start.

For me it's the LA Kings. Coming off a disappointing year where they failed to qualify for a playoff spot a 1-3-0 start certainly isn't ideal. Perhaps the most concerning early season trend has been their inability to score goals. They struggled to fill the net all of last year and to this point, although it's still early, nothing has changed as they've scored just six goals through five games.

I think the Kings are better than they've shown thus far and will still qualify for a playoff spot. In saying that I'm more confident in Anaheim's ability to right the ship given their star power, depth and consistent ability to finish top-5 in the standings.

Los Angeles.

The Ducks are the better team, plain and simple. Jonathan Quick is over-rated and his struggles right now are tough for a team with limited offensive firepower to overcome. LA is playing decent all-around hockey in general but goaltending has been putrid and they just can't score. It's only early, and they're not going to fall out of the mix this early, but they should definitely be more concerned than Anaheim.

Anaheim may have their own goal troubles right now but they're playing good hockey all-around so that's going to change eventually. The Ducks are just too good of a team to be concerned with a small stretch of poor luck.

Neither of these teams should be too worried. They both have solid lineups and will be fine. The Kings have Doughty, Muzzin, Carter and Kopitar, so they are fine. The Ducks have Perry and Getzlaf and neither has a point so far - something which will not continue.

Honestly, if they're both scuffling after 10-15 games, then maybe its a problem, but for now I'll trust that they'll right themselves.
