There's been a lot of talk Ryan O'Reilly could be traded this off-season. Should the Buffalo Sabres trade the strong two-way center or keep him around to help lead the young guys and get the team back on track?

Assuming there are quality offers on the table, I think trading Ryan O'Reilly is the way to go.

The Sabres are still a long way from contending and their best pieces (Jack Eichel, Casey Mittelstadt, Rasmus Dahlin, etc.) are all very young and years away from hitting their prime. By the time that happens, and they are surrounded with a supporting cast that can actually compete, O'Reilly will be pushing 30 – if not there already – and his game will be heading south.

He doesn't fit in with the team's core and he could help bring in valuable pieces that actually do. As such, I think it makes sense to move him to a center starved team willing to pay up.

The Sabres should not trade Ryan O'Rielly. With the #1 overall pick, and the graduation of some prospects, the Sabres will be looking to take a step forward this year, and one of the key ways you do that is by having a core group of solid vest to surround the young players. O'Rielly is one of the NHL's most solid and underrated players. You might as well gut the Sabres and try to draft first three more times as to get rid of him. He is the exact player Buffalo would be looking for if they traded him, so why bother?

ROR comes with some baggage for my team that is interested. The challenge like many players coming out of Buffalo is the player the problem or the greater mess?

Players like ROR are few and far between but don’t let the belief of his game fool you into thinking he’s in his prime- he’s about to hit decline so any team who gets him has to be aware of that. Proceed with caution if you want him and have a plan as to usuage and role and Donny acquire him for reputation and hope.
