In this edition of the hotstove, we share breakout picks for players within the Central Division.

Todd Cordell

Sven Andrighetto.

He showed flashes during his time in Montreal that suggested he could produce if ever given the opportunity. That was the case down the stretch in Colorado, and he certainly made the most of it, tallying 15 points in 19 games while being extremely efficient at 5v5.

I very much doubt he'll continue to fill the score sheet at that rate going forward (64 points per 82 games is a lot to ask, especially in today's NHL) but he should be fairly productive as long as he gets steady minutes -- and there's no reason to believe he won't.

Bonus pick: Ivan Barbashev.

He recorded 12 points, all of which came at even-strength, in 30 games with St. Louis despite seeing less than 12 minutes of ice per game. Given his skill level, and encouraging rate stats at 5v5, it's probably safe to expect more if he's given the minutes (perhaps he'll eat up some of what David Perron left behind).

Peter Tessier

Okay, I'm going full homer simply because I've been hearing about this guy for two seasons. It's not because I want him to have a break out season- I do, it's because Jets fans along with Chicago and Columbus fans have too.

Marlo Dano needs to do something now and do it fast. Kid has all the tools in the tool box, meets all the fancy stats checkpoints but seems to fail in getting the coaches to see it. If the Jets bottom 6 is going to be boon to the team Dano has to break out and move beyond what's he's been since he arrived in the NHL. Otherwise, he's looking like Burmistrov 2.0.
