It’s the first Saturday of 2016’s fall season, and that can only mean one thing: it’s cold.

Oh, and hockey is rapidly approaching. That, too.

Here are a few quick hits to keep you entertained:

- Greg Pateryn, now wearing the number 8, scored in yesterday’s scrimmage as the Montreal Canadiens’ training camp is underway. At age 26, the time has come for him to earn himself a permanent spot on the roster, and he believes he’s ready to start contributing offensively. After all, he posted 15 goals in 2013-2014 in the AHL:

- Nathan Beaulieu’s confidence is sky-high, and he’s convinced he can fill the void left behind by P.K. Subban as well as be Shea Weber’s first-pairing partner. Also, he knows he’s a “big part of the team moving forward,’ in light of recent trade rumours surrounding the 23-year-old:

- Interesting take on the Habs’ captaincy and leadership in the room by the Montreal Gazette’s Brendan Kelly

- It looks like there’s a goaltending duel shaping up at training camp, as free agent signing Al Montoya believes he’s ready to win Mike Condon’s job

- Tomas Plekanec and Max Pacioretty are back in town and will undergo their medical exams before getting back on the ice on Tuesday:

- As training camp resumes, a scrimmage took place earlier today and the final score was 1-1, with Zach Redmond (!) and Alex Radulov scoring for their respective teams.

- Tonight at 7:00pm ET, Team Canada will take on Team Russia at the World Cup of Hockey semifinals. Habs fans will be sure to keep an eye on Carey Price, Shea Weber, Alexei Emelin, and Andrei Markov.

Here’s a preview by RDS’ Francois Gagnon.

- Finally, the Habs will take on the New Jersey Devils on Monday evening and the Washington Capitals the following day in the first official preseason games.
