Buffalo Sabres number one defenseman Rasmus Ristolainen will have a hearing tomorrow afternoon for interference on Pittsburgh’s Jake Guentzel.
Ristolainen was assessed a five minute major for interference and a game misconduct for this hit on Pittsburgh forward Jake Guentzel just nine minutes into the Sabres-Pens game on Tuesday night. The Penguins won 3-1.
NHL Department of Player Safety should be ashamed of themselves. This hit was unfortunate, not dirty. The pucks was on its way to Guentzel when Ristolainen activated the hit then the puck was re-routed. What was Ristolainen supposed to do? Freeze? Pause? The kid is 6'4" and 220 lbs. and was 100% committed to the hit.
Nothing to see here. Ristolainen misses the final 51 minutes of the Penguins game. That is penalty enough.

The NHL wants all youth hockey, junior, college and NHL players to slash opponents in the groin, right? Sid does whatever Sid wants to do. He crosses the line of good sportsmanship on a weekly basis. He gets away with his sniveling and stick work because he is the NHL's prized bell cow.

P.S.- I can't wait to watch forward Brandon Dubinsky and the Columbus Blue Jackets terrorize and torment Crosby in round one of the Stanley Cup playoffs. Dubinsky has always been kryptonite to "Superman" #87.
