Still quiet on the Western New York front.

No word out of the league office in NYC regarding the ruling on the Patrick Kaleta suspension.

Updated 3:50pm:

Point of clarification. Kaleta is not in NYC, according to a report.

TSN’s Darren Dreger tweeted that the NHL is still waiting for Sabres winger Pat Kaleta “to decide on in-person or conference call hearing”.

More to come…

Vancouver Canucks D-man Alex Edler is a repeat offender of the NHL code of conduct.

The NHL has suspended Edler 3 games for his head hit on San Jose rookie Tomas Hertl.

Here’s the tale of the tape on Edler's obvious violation of Rule 48.

Thanks, NHL

Edler will forfeit $182,926.83 of his 2013-14 salary.

Edler's hearing was conducted by phone.

Speaking of repeat offenders, Sabres agitator Pat Kaleta is in New York City and will be meeting with the NHL Player’s Safety Department today.

In person hearings carry a minimum sentence of five games suspension.

Begs the question:

If Edler got 3 games for his hit on Hertl, how many games will Kaleta get for his hit on Blue Jackets defender Jack Johnson?

Hit play on the video and watch at the :29 second mark as Kaleta enters the picture, flashing across to hit Johnson, who had just thrown a pass. Kaleta's check was not late as it occurred a second after the pass left Johnson's stick.

It appears from the video as though Kaleta made high contact with Johnson. Was Kaleta's principle point of contact Johnson's head? Shoulder? Chest? Thats for Brendan Shanahan and the Department of Player Saftey to determine.
