* Brett Sutter has cleared waivers has been assigned to Carolina's AHL squad in hopes he can find his game. The Hurricanes were relieved he cleared and a bit surprised. There are a few teams out there with cap issues that have interest and may be trying to make some space...especially if Sutter shows positive signs.
* This is a big week in Philadelphia. Sources tell me the Flyers are not only looking for victories but decisive victories as they head to Carolina and then back home to face NJ before Edmonton comes in on Saturday afternoon. With the exception of the win over the NY Islanders the Flyers have won some games by slim margins and actually got some bounces in each case. There is no shortage of teams out there wanting to take some of the Flyers young talent off of their hands and history dictates the Flyers could make a blockbuster deal involving several players should this go on much longer.
*In Ottawa, a possible trading partner with the Flyers, things are also getting very edgy...The Sens are looking hard for grit and heart right now. The Senators are talking to Florida, however it apppears Dale Tallon wants a ton and is willing to hold off on his stable of assets for the deadline...at which time Florida will be the focal point I assure you.
*In Nashville there is a deep sense that a trade could be on the approaching horizon. Rinne's injury is a huge ongoing concern but as far as I can tell the Preds are only in on Ryan Miller if Rinne can't return this year.
*The Islanders and Sabres are still talking. That is for certain. "The phonelines are on speed dial" a source told me.
*The Ducks and Oilers continue to talk about "a possible contingency deal" which I believe to be (and which hasn't been denied to me to be) Jonas Hiller. The Oilers want a goaltender, but the only way that deal happens this year is if the Ducks land Ryan Miller....
*All this means that Darcy Regier is in a strong spot. There is also interest in Steve Ott. I am hearing Tampa and Chicago...(the latter would be closer to the deadline...)
*Colorado is talking another deal..this one with the NY Rangers...but I have yet to be able to get anyone on the record to tell me what exactly...although it does look as if the Avalanche combo of Sakic and Roy arent going to sit by and just enjoy this start...rather some more tinkering is likeliy.
*The Winnipeg Jets are open for business as well....very open.
*The Leafs may look to make a minor deal here with Bolland missing some time. But that will only be the case should the team struggle in his absence this week.
