Been one of "those" days where you can barely breathe to get off the phone. FINALLY putting an update out! My apologies!
Before launching into the rumors...I got to see the LA Kings today defeat the Flyers 1-0 and those Kings my friends are a playoff team. The fact it is even in question is baffling. They battle, they hustle, and wow do they have a young leader in Drew Doughty. That kid is Ray Bourque in my opinion. But maybe more fiery. And Quick, who turned away 40 Flyers shots is truly a force.
Never has the difference between the East and West been more blatantly huge.
The Thrashers are in 9th in the East and have given up 20 more goals than they have scored.
The Kings are 9th in West and have score 24 more goals than they have allowed, and they haven't lost in regulation in ten games. AND still they are ninth.
Not sure who they knock out, but they will be in the playoffs.
Onto the rumors...
* Following a hot rumor that the Sabres are interested in Colorado Avalanche player Brandon Yip.
* The Canadiens continue to attempt to make a deal. Rumor has it they were very close to acquiring Sedoguchi from San Jose two nights back, but once again have shifted their focus to Stephen Weiss.
* There has been some talk the Habs and Phoenix are discussing a deal which could land Scott Gomez in Arizona. It's early on, but it's possible.
* The Leafs and Flyers continue to talk about a few players. There are rumors about the Flyers and Giguere or Versteeg. I am hearing the Leafs could take some money back and would like a young player off the Flyers roster as well.
* The Flames and Devils are once again talking about a deal which could get Bouwmeester to NJ. The Devils are rather remarkably showing signs of being BUYERS.
* According to one source, The Bruins are not going to make it past "mid-week" without acquiring a defenseman who was long known for his uneasiness accepting a trade from Toronto...but that player could be Bryan McCabe...
*The Capitals are giving themselves until the end of the coming week to decide if they are going to go hard after Phillips or Vokoun. Craig Anderson is sort of "the outside option" in Washington...and some say Philly.
* The Rangers, in a deal that would prove to be extreme in the category of "we dare to repeat what we don't learn from History" are rumored to be possibly offering Del Zotto for Chris Phillips.
* The Blackhawks are VERY near to being in serious danger of missing the playoffs. We will either see a move very soon, or we will know the Hawks are willing to write off the year.
* The Sharks are also looking at Del Zotto, and have the hottest goalie since the year 2011 dawned in Niemi. He is not only putting up staggering numbers, but he is controlling the tempo in the Sharks zone by freezing pucks. Sharks fans were accustomed to seeing Nabokov keep those in play. And Niemi is very good at slowing other team's momentum in this way. The Combo of Niemi and Couture are why I think this could be the Shark's year. I know they fell to Florida tonight, but I still feel this is a special year for this team.
* I don't get the same strong sense as most out there that the Penguins are trigger happy to bring back Kovalev. I could see him returning to Montreal however...
