Sabres looking to improve on D. Kaberle? Heatley, Kessel, Devils... |

We all know that the Magic Window has now passed for Tomas Kaberle's no-trade clause, but I wouldn't out a ton of stock in that. Brian Burke has definitely settled on the fact that Kaberle is part of a top 4 in Toronto that he told me he was very excited about...
But I also left with two other certainties.. #1 Kaberle would still agree to go to a team in the East if they asked him to. #2 Everyone knows how to get in touch with Burke.
With Schneider now signed in Vancouver, the teams that had interest who lost out but definitely need a veteran presence, Buffalo and the NY Isles, are still kicking tires. The Sabres desperatle need to make a move in my opinion. They have been very quiet this summer despite numerous holes.
The Sabres, as many know, were indeed the among closest teams to acquiring Kaberle at this past draft. and it is not a hard sell to get Kaberle to move a few hours west and south.
A source told me that, "indeed it is still very mush an option."
Also, with the Wild losing out to Tampa for Tanguay you can be very certain that Bryan Murray is again going to begin talks. The Wild would love to grab Heatley and are in need of some definite star power.
The Sharks and Rangers are the front runners and much will depend on convincing a certain someone to go to NJ. But the plans are already under way to begin the courtship there.
Meanwhile, I would also keep an eye on Kessel over the next few days. Edmonton and LA are the two most likely spots, with the Wild as well in on it...
