Quick Hits...

Rumors swirling today that Sutton, considered by many the "creme of the crop" of available D-men, has signed an extension in Edmonton. The question then is does this affect if he is dealt or not. One source told me, "The Oilers are not happy with the offers coming through to this point, so they could be trying to up those offers by the threat of either extending Sutton or by increasing his value if he is signed next year for a reasonable number."

I have been writing for some time now the Oilers really like Sutton and wouldn't mind keeping the most solid D-man the team has. Sutton is highly regarded throughout the NHL and his season in Edmonton has raised his value in the marketplace come July 1, so if Sutton signs a 1 year deal it would be pretty surprising.

Bulin wall back to Chicago?

This just in.. We all remember the first big signing post lockout.. Khabibulin, the incumbent Cup winning goalie, to Chicago. It was a deal that was an albatross for the Hawks the first few seasons until the team got competitive and Nic, in his final year in Chicago, turned it up. I have long believed Khabibulin to be a much better goalie when playing on a competitive team...this rumor would be pretty surprising were it to come to fruition.

Flyers goalie shopping?

I keep hearing they are not going to the playoffs without a third option...The Flyers like Nabokov, however when the team traded for his rights a few drafts ago, they did feel a bit dissed by Nabokov's camp....so I am not sure...

Flyers/Sabres talking?

The Flyers top priority is Defense, no question...Sutton, Visnovsky, Allen, Gill....however I keep hearing rumors the Flyers are having discussions with the Sabres about Paul Gaustad...The Flyers definitely love to grab experience and character up front.

Selanne?

This may be the season. The Hawks, Flyers, Devils, Wings, Kings, and Canucks are all interested in Teemu for the playoff run. The choice is Teemu's but for the first time in the history of Selanne rumors people are saying he may actually be considering the move. LA of course would be a breeze for Teemu, but the Ducks would have to believe they had no shot at the playoffs before such a deal was struck.

Moen to Sharks (e3)

This deal looks very close to being done..there are other teams involved however...still, I would put San Jose way up front.

Wings/Hawks/Rangers and Kubina...

The Lightning must be loving the chance to get Chicago and Detroit to bid against one another...however it may be the Rangers, and former coach Torts, who realize the real impact he could have.

more to come
