The Sharks are a fascinating team to me. Ever since a decade ago when my then girlfriend/fiance lived in Sunnyvale, California, just up the 101 from the Tank, I have had a love affair with Northern California and the Sharks. Sharks fans live a life of highs and lows, but I honestly feel that this year is different. I suppose that's how affairs sometimes go.
I am quite surprised that the Sharks name came up in regards to Kubina. I am a Kubina fan actually and feel that he does bring a needed element to this squad. He kills penalties, is solid in transition, but perhaps most of all he brings a Stanley Cup Ring won with Dan Boyle on the western shores of Florida. That matters to a team that has historically had difficulty finding the next level and ramping it up in the off-season.
People in Toronto were tough on Kubina, but people in Tampa will tell you that his departure mattered.
The Sharks are in a tough Cap spot, so I wouldn't expect more on this until the deadline and obviously the Sharks will need to make other moves to make this work and/or give some money back to Atlanta. And as always with Atlanta deals need to be deeper than prospects...the Thrashers want players who can help them right now.
Despite the Kovalchuk craziness and Kubina rumors, the Thrashers are becoming a solid team that truly is desperate to make the playoffs.
Habs considering Grebeshkov?
The need for another prominent Dman is glaring in Montreal. I keep hearing Grebeshkov.
Olli Jokinen to Nashville?
Fascinating rumor out of Calgary this morning. The Predators are a dangerous team and they have interest in Olli Jokinen out of Calgary I am told. I am still collecting more details on this one. Talking to a source in Nashville in the Hour...
