St. Louis still has to sign restricted free agent defenseman Alex Pietrangelo, but they have locked up veteran Jay Bouwmeester for $27 Million over 5 years.

More to come

They always say "the oddsmakers in Vegas know what they're doing" and with so much money on the line you would think they do. Of course it needs to be noted the Odds makers aren't ONLY trying to predict a winner, but trying to sucker you. Putting Toronto at 25/1 for example while the Rangers are at 14/1? How about the Flyers and Blue Jackets both sitting at 40/1? San Jose at 16/1?

Odds are made so the house doesn't lose money and so people are intrigued to place bets. Plain and simple.

I can honestly say I have never placed an actual vegas bet on sports. I have plenty of friends who do and they tell me hockey is a sucker bet. I grew up with a horse racing handicapper in my family and I do love playing the occasional blackjack, but I haven't sat down at a table in over a year. That said, were I to place a bet in Vegas it would have to be worth the trip right?

So it would have to be a longshot bet.

The oddsmakers are trying to tempt the big market fans in Toronto and Philly no question. Any Leafs fan realizes their team was a few minutes away from knocking of a team that was a few minutes away from a game 7 in a Cup final. Any Flyers fan looks at a team having added three major parts to a team already loaded for bear with young offensive talent and has to look at 40-1 and say, "huh The flyers last year were top five in power play and top 5 in penalty kill and didn't make the playoffs. That is almost unheard of."

I personally think Toronto and Philly are both better than the odds placed, but the real shocker to me on this list is San Jose at 16/1. The Sharks were a few incredible Quick saves away from a series with a Hawks team in the Conference Final...and they have added so more grit and scoring and re-signed Couture and Pavelski...plus they have Thornton and Marleau in their final years of contacts...

So my best bet: San Jose

Biggest sucker bet?
The team the Sharks swept out last year...Vancouver at 12/1.

What are your best bets and biggest sucker bets?
