Finally home and I am working on my update.

RDS has put out a story that Len Barrie nixed a deal that was done for Vinny Lecavalier on Friday night. It is simply not true I am told by several sources. No deal was done, nor could such a deal be nixed by Len Barrie. Vinny Lecavalier is still very much A Lightning.

One league source said of the story that "wasn't even close to being the events of Friday."

This is no shot at RDS of course. There have been several stories that RDS has broken over the years regarding the Habs. In fact, were I not talking to some really strong sources here I would believe RDS as well. Their story is congruent to rumors that had been circulating at the draft about what went on during the NHL/ Tampa meeting prior to the draft. Those rumors however were whispered down the lane and flawed as well.

In many instances over the years I have reported similar stories to RDS in the past and I could tell we are obviously talking to the same sources. Again, I am not going after RDS, simply saying that the information that we are getting is obviously coming from different sources.

Since all we can do is write what we are told by folks we trust....where does that leave us?

What should you believe?

Put on your journalism hat. There are clues that may point you there in both this story and RDS's story. Unfortunately there are facts that I know (and I am sure facts that RDS knows) that we are not yet at liberty to disclose.

When looking at this closely, remember:

People have agendas and no information is given to any of us reporters without some reason to give it. The people with the most to lose often have the biggest agendas.

Sorry to be so cryptic, you will understand why in the next little bit here.
