Talked to my sources and updated the following players on The NHL Trade Rumor Chart

First off....the Kovalchuk Watch.

Bob McKenzie has tweeted and reported on TSN.com that the "Flames and Hawks Could Actively Pursue Kovalchuk." Bob states, "The Calgary Flames are a team that may, and I stress MAY, be interested. However if they are, they're going to have to talk about some of the 'big boys' - like Dion Phaneuf amongst others - to be included."

I have yet to hear Calgary mentioned as having thrown their hat in the ring, but I have learned by now that if McKenzie says it...it will probably be happening.

I am still hearing that Boston and Los Angeles are the leading candidates should he not sign an extension.

However I will add this. If Kovalchuk isn't signed to an extension look for a team to grab him as a rental and then trade his negotiating rights at the draft to the Maple Leafs. Whoever trades for him will definitely try to extend him.

Sykora to Atlanta Close?

My sources say, "nothing to it."

Svatos to the Leafs(e3)

I had him at 60% and I am increasing it to 70%. The Leafs have tried in the past to get him. (Pre-Burke)

Jack Johnson to Red Wings (e4)

Two sources, very close to the scene are saying a deal may get worked out that would send Jack Johnson to Detroit. I am told that "discussions are imminent."

Could Kaberle to Boston Equal The #1 pick back?

The Leafs have been adamant that Kaberle will not be moved, however there is a theory out there that if for some reason the Leafs could get back the #1 this season that they moved for Kessel, plus a prospect...Kaberle could be Bruin. I personally think the Bruins would be an immediate playoff factor if they made that deal.

on Halak....

"Very close to being dealt. Very close...and your Canadien fan readers will be quite pleased by the return."

more to come...
