Apology from Me to All of You about Tanguay's e5. Where we are now with Al

Ok, before launching into the rumors on this relatively quiet Saturday I owe you all an apology.

As many of you know, the E-system is the best way I know to get the word to you about the level of my sources involvement in a rumor without giving them up. People often the E1 through E4 ratings as "likeliness to happen." While there is some correlation obviously (two people connected to a deal telling me about a rumor they should have intimate knowledge about would seem more likely to be a solid rumor than an individual not connected to the deal but hearing something, but in the end if talks actually become a deal really doesn't have anything to do with who told me about the talks.)

I set this whole system up because I found that I was getting people's hopes up and then when a deal didn't happen they would look to me for answers. As a general rule, I don't have answers as to why a deal doesn't get done. I am not involved in the actual deals themselves. What I try to do is give you a peak inside the inner workings. 99% of the time I report on simply what is being discussed. So when I say Kaberle to Vancouver (e4), what I am saying is two or more people that should know are telling me that it is being seriously discussed. By telling you this, my hope is you get some enjoyment out of having some previous knowledge and debating what you think your team should do.

However, and e5 is nothing like an E1, E2, E3, or E4....An E5 is supposed to be a done deal. For the most part, save a very few instances in the last four years, e5s have been you can "take it to the bank" deals. Over 80 e5s have been reported with 4 false positives. But remember, I can only report what I am told. So if a source tells me a deal is done and that source has always been 100% truthful, I tell you something like Alex Tanguay to Florida (e5). As I did on Thursday afternoon. My source just called and told me he was wrong. It wasn't done. At least not all parties had agreed to what he told me was done.

I can't reveal my source, nor would it do me or you any good if I told you the whole story. My source man'd up here and he has been a good source of many of the great possibilities that I have thrown out. To out him, or tell you who screwed him would do nothing but burn bridges and I didn't get her by burning bridges. So, as much as a few of you who don't respect me, might get me more were I to tell you the whole story, I would rather keep the source so I can keep reporting to the many more who do understand what the difference between rumor and fact is, and who enjoy the discussion.

But I to am going to man up here and say that I am sorry for the Tanguay to Florida e5 story. It was inaccurate. I was reporting on information that wasn't as complete as it should have been and I wasn't as thorough as I should have been. I should have double checked it at the time. I was too conviced by my source and his proximity.

So what next for Tanguay?

Florida is still highly likely. I would still say it is a strong e4. I feel the best deal monetarily and years is in Florida..but maybe not the best deal long term for Alex...

Were I Tanguay's agent I would be steering him towards Tampa or Colorado

Tampa, if Tangs is willing to take a one year deal, and I think he should to really build up his value, is still a strong possibility. He could play with Stamkos or Vinny in Tampa...he has shown to be a player who excels with like skilled players...also an e4.

Colorado looks to have fallen out of it. I don't understand why exactly, given all of the lobbying by some big names there and the linemates that we know are a great fit.... but Colorado isn't making a strong pitch , as I write this at least, they are a non-factor. That can change in a phone call of course.

Nashville, Vancouver, the Islanders, and the Sabres are on the outskirts right now...but any one of them could jump in...

The Isles seem more focused on landing Cheechoo in a deal with San Jose..in my opinion...

I will have more on Kaberle in a bit..I really wouldn't be shocked if he was dealt in the next 36 hours to Vancouver. It doesn't matter if a GM is fishing. The Canucks only have to say yes to a proposed deal, and at one point yesterday I was hearing that they were going to...

Anyway, again, I apologize for the false e5. You come here to read me and you trust me. I need to do better when it comes to reporting a done deal than I did here. Thanks.
