What $4 Million In County Money Can Get The Isles

First, why don’t I use Google more often? I spent 40 minutes searching for the date the Islanders asked Nassau county for repair money on Bing (freakin Bing). I switched to Google.com and found the information in like -- a nanosecond.

Okay, here goes. So in July, the NY Islanders asked their Landlord, Nassau County for $4 million in renovations to the Nassau Coliseum. It was announced at an odd time, right before the referendum vote. But the request had actually been in the works as everyone knows the NVMC is in desperate need of improvements.

Today I asked if Nassau County had actually come through with the money they had appropriated. They did. What I didn’t ask at the Mark Streit press conference, I asked Michael Picker, Sr. Vice President, today.

Has the ice making equipment been updated? Simple question, but one of tantamount importance in the National hockey league. Yes they have. Along with the ice equipment update, they have purchased a portable dehumidifier which will come in very handy at the end of the season and playoff time. Yes, I said playoff time.

If you’ve been by the Coliseum you’ve also seen the parking lot has a new coat of black top and there have been some roof repairs. (Necessary roof repairs.) They are replacing 200 broken seats and repainting the lower bowl. These may sound like minor details, but the Devil is always in the details.

The new Team Store will have a “soft opening” during the exhibition game on Saturday night. It looks great and will be open prior to non-Islander events and during box office hours.

By the way, if you didn’t see it, there is a special ticket offer beginning Friday at 10 am for walk-up patrons for 2 for 1 tickets for select seats.

Okay, now to go off and write part two of Media Day. Yeah, yeah. I’m slow as ….

Side note: With early injuries hitting, Jack Capuano was a little disappointed that some of these players will not be able to participate in a full week's worth of camp. The list of players heading to Boston for tomorrow's night exhibition game is on their main website.

Forwards

Defensemen
Staios-Mottau

Goalies

No decision on who will get the net in Boston. I'm thinking Nilsson.
