Waiting for Halak & Keeping Pick

3 pm: It's not June 1st, but the Islanders have decided and announced that they will indeed be keeping their 2014 1st round draft pick and will send the 2015 pick to the Sabres. Maybe Garth has something in mind for the draft floor in a blockbuster trade? Or maybe someone is on their radar for the draft.

Either way. Decision made and announced.

7 am: Since May 1st, when the Islanders traded for rights to negotiate with Washington Capitals goalie Jaroslav Halak, fans have been on the edge of their seats waiting for news. Something. Anything! But so far, nothing concrete has been announced.

The 5’ 10”, 29-year-old Slovakian is a client of NHL agent, Alan Walsh.

Allan Walsh ‏@walsha May 1
The NY Islanders have acquired the rights to client Jaroslav Halak from Washington.

Halak’s agent hasn’t tweeted about him and the Isles since May 1st. And he is usually someone who has loose lips. So if there was ANY news concerning his client, I think Walsh would be the first to leak it to the media.

Proof that you can’t trust Wikipedia, according to them Halak is already playing for the New York Islanders, so fans should not despair. Maybe it’s a premonition!

So, here are some of what the Isles fans are saying about him

@NYIslanders What's going on with Halak? #Isles

Seems a fair question.

Hey @NYIslanders. If the Rangers keep winning can we announce a Halak signing so I don't jump of the Bklyn Bridge? Kthx.

Step away from the ledge. It will be okay. It will.

What has happened to the #Habs illustrates why Garth MUST NOT get a run of the mill G to backup Halak. He must get someone w/ #1 potential.

Now, Bill has the power of positive thinking. In his mind, Garth has already been able to sign Halak and is on to the next goaltender signing.

Darryl Haberman ‏@NHLHabes May 19
Hey, the #Isles haven't signed Halak yet, so there's always chance #STLBlues bring him back. #StrangerThingsHaveHappened #NHL

Anything is possible in this NHL. But why go back?

@RodGiacoleetch @PowerofthePuck @PierreMcDouche Miller wants to compete for the Cup, & 90% chance Halak signs with the Isles in my opinion.

Right! Ryan Miller will also be available in free agency, and we have had some conversations about him looking half-way decent in an Isles jersey. But there never seemed to be too much interest from the organization itself.

#isles To clear up some discussion today re:Halak, contracts can still be front loaded granted they dont move 35% in either direction <>

My buddy and fellow blogger Andy Graziano is already negotiating Halak’s contract. I trust his instincts.

#isles musts for the upcoming season 1 Need a goal song 2 Intern who has a personality who can handle the twitter acct Oh yeah & sign Halak

Expanding the thought process here. Yes, a new goal song might be something we can wrap our fingers around this summer. A contest perhaps? Regarding an Isles Intern, I have respected each one of them. They work hard, they get little recognition for their work and they learn from the bottom up. We’ve had some really wonderful people running the Isles Twitter and social media accounts. Yes, they need really thick skin to deal with this fan base. I would love to see the fans occasionally give them credit and accolades for their hard work. Oh, yeah… and freakin’ SIGN HALAK.

@DFriedmanOnNYI quick question, is there any chance Isles delay announcing Halak signing to the Draft Party to add to the excitement?

Not a chance in hell in this social media world. The second it happens, it will be announced. But maybe, just maybe, if it DOES happen before the June 27th draft party, then he can be one of the special guests. Did you order your tickets yet?

What are you waiting for?
