Mon 2:41 pm: They keep piling it on!!! Add to the free admission of the scrimmage and free parking and $1 hot dogs & sodas a 25% discount in the team store!

What else you need???

Mon 2:16 pm: Just added $1 hot dogs & soda to that free scrimmage with free parking. Come & Get it! #It'sHockeytime on Long Island!

And in a strange twist of fate, the NY Islanders have claimed Joe Finley off waivers from the Buffalo Sabres, but had to place Ty Wishart on waivers to make room for him.

Mon 10 am: Okay, back in the cold of the rink and it feels wonderful. Everyone is skating hard and fast including Radek Martinek who seems to never age. Must be the ice.

I had tried to update this post this morning before work, but the website was wonky. Have you checked out the ITV interviews with everyone? They're great.

I did manage to grab a few things I thought were interesting.

First, Garth Snow feels that he likes the team "If everyone plays to their ability, we'll be a team that cane do some damage here." Same thing people said about the Isles last season.

He also feels that keeing Nino in Bridgeport is good because he can play big minutes in multiple roles. Something he couldn't do last season due to his age.

Jack Capuano is a little nervous about this shortened camp and shortened season. He should be. He knows very well that this team has to come out with all cylinders firing or it's his butt. This is a very stressful time for every coach.

Mark Streit knows that the guys have to stay healthy and it's almost impossible with this sort of every other night schedule. He will see.

Sun 10 pm: Over and over again fans asked about open practices. Well, the Islanders listened and have opened two select practices and even aded a bonus Blue & White Scrimmage that will be FREE to the public inlcuding FREE parking!

The select practices are Tuesday January 15, 11 am and Thursday January 17 at 10 am, but since these are morning hours, so you'll have to take off of work or school. So they added an evening scrimmage at 7 pm on Wednesday night at 7 pm.

These should be fun and get you ready for the season to open on Saturday the 19th.

Bridgeport won this afternoon in New Jersey with Matt Donovan potting the game winning goal on the power play with only 1:16 left of the game. Nino Niederreiter put two pucks in the net in the 5 - 4 Bridgeport win and Costello and Ness also foudn their way onto the scoresheet.

A hard fought win for two points
