Two Weeks in BPort Will Do a Nino Good

I'd like to know why so many people like to push my buttons. I can't count how many times I was told or poke at with "Garth's gonna claim Avery, he he he he." Jerks. What? Like Beavis and Butthead write about the Islanders?

I like what Chris Botta said about the thought on Twitter. If the Isles were to claim Avery, it wouldn't be to play hockey. No. So after the noon hour yesterday, Avery was back with the only club that would have him and will more than likely play on Thursday. Meaning John Tortorella will more than likely have a meltdown by Friday.

Speaking of waivers, Trevor Gillies cleared waivers and was sent to Bridgeport. Along with Trevor will be 19-year-old Nino Niederreiter. This is a great thing. Nino hasn't been able to skate with the team since camp and to throw him into a regular game on the fourth line will not help him one bit.

Let Nino skate along with the likes of Mike Donovan, Sean Backman and Aaron Ness! Let him ride the bus with the other kids without any pressure to be an NHL powerhouse right away.

In a separate transaction, the Sound Tigers also announced that forward Dan Kissel has been released from his professional tryout contract (PTO). Kissel appeared in the first two AHL games of his career this past weekend and did not record a point in either game with the Sound Tigers.

I don't think that will be Nino's problem. What it will be is a great reason for anyone to go see the Soung Tigers these next two weeks! They have six games on their sechedule the next two weeks with three in B-Port. I gotta get there!

And here is the link for the podcast of Monday night's NHL Weekly show with Jiggs McDonald. Love talking to him. http://sportstalknetwork.com/main/hockey/hockey103111.mp3

Newsday has a little photo of yesterday's Islanders School Days with Moulson, Streit and Tavares reading and signing autographs at a local school. Nice to see a little positive publicity. At least this week.
