2:04 pm: And Matt Moulson continues to pile on his nominations and awards.

UNIONDALE, NY, April 30, 2011 – The National Hockey League announced today that New York Islanders forward Matt Moulson has been named a finalist for the NHL Foundation Award, given annually to the player who applies the values of hockey – commitment, preseverence and teamwork – to enrich the lives of people in his community.

Moulson is one of three finalists, along with Mike Fisher and John-Michael Liles, who will attend the 2012 NHL Awards Show in Las Vegas on Wednesday, June 20. Moulson is also a finalist for the Lady Byng Trophy, awarded annually to the player adjudged to have exhibited the best type of sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct combined with a high standard of playing ability.

The thing is -- he really deserves it. Congrats Matt.

7 am: Well, it's Monday and the weekend left us with some interesting Hockey (and non-hockey) goings on.

First, if you ask me who I'm rooting for the in the Rangers vs. Capitals series you may as well ask me if I am rooting for Death or Taxes. I will just watch and not offer any commentary.

Devils were downed by the Flyers and Daniel Briere had to win the game twice. I remember when Matt Moulson had to do that, but of course that game didn't matter as much as yesterday's.

So there is life in the desert. The Phoenix Coyotes have now downed the Nashville Preds two games to none. When I watched the first game with my hands firmly on the keyboard with my Twitter friends, I was surprised to see such animosity from many regarding Phoenix's attendance.

"Nice how they drape white tee shirts over the seats so it looks like it's full..."

Funny thing was that every time they scored, they'd get up out of their seats and cheer. Amazing how they got those tee shirts to do that.

Then there were the disgruntled Islander fans, season ticket holders at that, complaining about our own attendance and how bad the "Isles suck."

Isles Statsman Eric Hornick was quick to point out to someone that the Coliseum would be filled at this time of year as well. Yes, it certainly would.

Because that brings us back to -- Winning cures everything. However, for the Islanders it's the winning that doesn't come easy and hasn't for a long, long, long time. Something that everyone is quick to point out including Kate Murray.
Newsday reporter Patrick Whittle had a conversation with Kate Murray on 4/27/12 and Tweeted out some of her quotes. I was hoping by today (4/30) that his interview would be available for review. I do not see it up there.

Kate Murray is quoted by Mr. Whittle on Twitter as saying:

"These are low days for the #NHL," Murray said, adding that "with the #Rangers, it's exciting." #Islanders

Ms. Murray also said something about not believing certain economists reports, but that Tweet has been removed.**Please note, according to Mr. Whittle he has not removed any Tweets, so I may very well be mistaken.

And speaking of judicious editing, have you caught this article in the Long Island Press regarding Newsday's Editorial practices? You don't even need a subscription to read it.

Side notes: I made Spector's Hockey Blog Beat over the weekend. Nice! And Canada beat Switzerland in their exhibition game for the upcoming IIHF tournament. Supposedly John Tavares, Mark Streit and Nino Niederreiter were all held off the score sheet. Hey, it's only an exhibition game.

Congrats to Ryan Strome on the IceDog's championship win. We're sure to see you at mini-camp this July (and beyond.)

That's all for this morning. Let's see if we can kick Monday's butt.
