I'm sorry I have been remiss, but I am taking a little break from work of all sorts and that includes hockey.

The NY Islanders announced another prospect signing today as Johan Sundstrom, the Isles 2nd round selection at 50th overall of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft has signed on the dotted line of his NHL entry contract. Certainly that set off a party in his home town of Gothenburg Sweden.

It seems that the Islanders have thought very highly of Sundstrom ever since August 2011 when Eric Cairns and Kerry Gwydir reported on him from the USA Hockey National Junior Evaluation camp.
“He did everything,” Gwydir said. “He showed he could shoot the puck; he showed he could generate offense with his speed; he showed he could kill penalties. He was an assistant captain for Sweden and he was used in every important situation.”

The Islanders Hockey-Ops duo became enamored with their new 6’1, 196-pound prospect after watching Sweden’s first two games of the tournament, which began August 6th and runs through the 13th.

These paragraphs seem a lot better than the numbers today's press release came out with.

.....the 6’2, 196-pound forward scored a goal in 41 games as a rookie with Frolunda. He added 19 points (10 goals, nine assists) in 15 regular-season games with Frolunda’s junior club and 15 points (eight goals, seven assists) in seven junior playoff games en route to a Junior European Trophy Championship.

Okay, "A goal" in the elite league? In 41 games? Cool. Welcome to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers Johan. This is Nino Niederreiter. ;o)
