What’s going wrong?

The Isles have scored 18 goals in ten games. The lowest number in franchise history. So, what gives? Seriously, what?

According to Butchie, it’s simple. They’re not shooting.

Butchie said there’s a real hesitancy on the ice. “They’re trying to make better plays and make easier goals. But they’re also not taking the extra seconds to pick the corners.” That doesn’t mean that Jet’s goalie Pavelec was in perfect position. But the Isles have to be better and have enough confidence to take that half second to take a better shot.

The five days between games didn’t help, but rust should be shaken off after the first few minutes, not the entire 20. They should be sharp and ready to go. They should have known this game was important.

Evander Kane had one hell of a game tonight. He pushed Hamonic until he couldn’t take it any more and Travis found him a willing dance partner. They danced more than threw punches, which may have been better for Hamonic’s face.

While Pavelec played like Glenn Healy -- He flops around and makes the saves -- RDP was playing like himself. Which in a way was a good thing. A few flubs, like losing the puck when he was trying to stop play and coming out too far behind the net and getting creamed, but all in all not a bad performance.

Matt Martin was the hitting machine doling out nine hits on the Jets,. The Isles pumped out 53 shots with 19 being blocked. Yet the Isles were shut out again, for the third time in ten games.

Is Jack’s honeymoon with his team over?

When asked during the post game, it was obvious he wasn’t happy with their effort. He’ll probably be changes lines or letting some players sit out. “You’ve got to want it more.” It doesn’t matter any more if someone played well last season, if they’re not playing well this season, they’re not going to get the ice time.

“I don’t know if it’s a breaking point but to me -- come Saturday night if we have to play 3 lines, we’ll play three lines. If we have to play 5 D, then we will.”

He also said he wouldn’t be against Garth Snow making a call up from Bridgeport just to shake up the team.

My thought -- Hey, Jack. How about making them attend that morning skate on game days?

Sidenote: It's a shame that Mark Streit's 97 year old Grandmother had to see her grandson get knocked around so much in this horrid loss.
