Hell Has Frozen Over: JT Joins Twitter

I was driving back from Woodstock when I heard the news that John Tavares had "officially" joined Twitter.

Now, while this news isn't 'historic,' it does mark a change in attitude for young JT who is known to be the MOST 'all business' player in that locker room.

Since his arrival on Long Island only a few short years ago, John has been very well protected and while he is great with the fans, it was always under very tight security. Having a Twitter account gives fans more access to the Islanders star than ever before.

It also gives @91Tavares a chance to defend himself against the likes of @Grabs40 who is an incessant tease to his fellow team mates. It was only a matter of time.

While many dislike Twitter and the constant chatter, it does give you a window into personalities and what is happening in their off-ice lives. Take the most famous NHL Twitter account, @BizNasty2point0. The Phoenix Coyote bad boy was chased off Twitter the first time, but came back with a new understanding of the social media tool and now has over 300,000 followers. This is NOT for his hockey skills. It's for his mouth and his candid photos.

Last year Kirill Kabanov suspended his Twitter account too. It's a dangerous weapon or a wonderous tool. It's all how well you use it. While I can't imagine JT getting into Paul Bissonnette sort of Twitter fame, it's great to see him interact in a casual setting with both players and fans alike.

The real question will be if @MMoulson comes to his aid should things get out of hand on Twitter the same way he stands up for him on the ice.

I'm looking forward to the candid photos from Kyle Okposo's wedding and the birth of Matt Moulson's first child.

But most importantly, I'm looking forward to Matt Martin announcing he has signed a new deal with the NY Islanders. Can that happen already? Please?
