ESPN: The Spano Error

It is no longer a secret that ESPN will be exploring one of the more darker periods surrounding the NY Islanders: The Spano Era or should we say Error. Granted, it is history, and actually very interesting history, but as fans are you ready to relive it?

Kevin Connolly was sneaky about annoucing it on his Twitter feed only mentioning that he was heading to NY to work on a new ESPN 30 for 30, a program I will admit I've never seen. Connolly, the Islanders most famous fan, no their most famous REAL fan, will be doing the narration on the piece.

The fact that it will be someone who feels as strongly about the Isles as we all do makes the idea of shining a spotlight on the dark days slightly more paletable. But only slightly.

Can we not just bury it in a deep hole in the coliseum parking lot and never look at it again? No. It is too interesting.

For Kevin, it must be a labor of love as he posted this photo on his public Twitter feed of two of his favorite Isles greats he was able to interview for the piece.

Kevin Connolly is one of the nicest home-town celebrities you could ever meet. I've seen him at the Coliseum often and he always makes time for fans who want an autograph or photo with him. Today he was at Newsday for a photo shoot for the project. He also posed with a Newsday pressman in front of one of the few remaining newsprint presses on Long Island.

This photo, besides being one for the pressman to hang on his wall, should be one for all of us to hold onto. We may soon never see a printing press again if the digital evolution of information continues at the rate it is.
