After losing to the baby Pens on Friday night 3-1, the Bridgeport Sound Tigers returned home to Webster Bank Arena to wipe the slate clean. They did.

Facing the Manchester Monarchs, with Anders Nilsson in net for the third time in four games, stopped all 25 shots they managed to throw at him. But beyond having David Ullstrom back in the line-up after missing five games with a lower body injury, the Sound Tigers also had another weapon in their arsenal: Jack Capuano.

Coach Capuano has made almost every one of the Bridgeport home games, but last night he saw the game from the ice. It came as a surprise to many Islander fans who noticed him on the brand new scoreboard that hangs over center ice.

When I asked the reason for it, I was told “No special reason.” None so special as the man is probably bored as hell and wanted to remind himself what it felt like to be behind the bench. After all, the Sound Tigers were his team at one point; his very successful team. With the line-up due to lock-out, they have the possibility of being even more successful this season.

Matt Watkins scored two of the four goals that blanked the Monarchs and Jon Landry netted another. Nino Niederreiter scored his team leading 8th goal. New kid on the roster Max MacKay earned his first professional point in only his second game.

No idea if Coach Jack will make his way to Providence today as the Sound Tigers play their third game this weekend. But either way, Friday’s loss is ancient history.
