6:15 pm: As I am home, I had the opportunity to catch NHL Live on NHL Network. Butch Goring just said he'd like to see the Isles trade their 1st round pick for a defenseman (or two) that can help them win right now. I tend to agree with him. "Garth Snow is a smart man. He can put a package together." I'm guessing he's trying that right now with the GMs that are in Pittsburgh.

4:15 pm: Okay then. We are almost there. Tomorrow is the big day for a bunch of young hockey players as they wait to hear what number their name will be called during the NHL Entry Draft.

I won't be in Pittsburgh like so many very talented writers. I will be in Uniondale waiting and chatting with the fans. Hope you are there too. Don't forget there will be many players on hand tomorrow night as well as interactive games and festivities. As everyone says, no matter what name is called, it will be time for celebration.

Everyone who has written about the Islanders draft believes Snow will take a defensemen. I tend to agree. I just have a feeling he won't be standing on the podium at number four. But if he does, it will be because he didn't get the deal he wanted or is that high on some prospect that they have their eye on.

The NYIBC will have a table at the party. Sign up and enjoy the perks. Hofstra's radio WRHU will also be in attendance covering it live.

Here's hoping for a great new addition to the Islanders family.

11 am: With the exceptionally early schedule of the rookie camp comes the exceptionally EARLY scheduling of the Blue & White rookie Scrimmage. The June calendar is just a tad crowded, don't you think?

The Scrimmage which had been held at the Coliseum in previous years will be held this year at IceWorks in Syosset. That leaves very limited (and uncomfortable) seating at only 250 people. Tickets are $20 with all proceeds going to the Islanders Childrens' Charity.

Oh, and if that's not bad enough -- it starts at 6 pm. I work until 6 pm. But I had no say in this matter. (Officially: Doors open at 5:30, warm ups at 6, play starts at 6:30)

Also while I was trying to figure out how to get rid of this headache, the NHL schedule came out. Yippee! Okay this is the first year I wasn't sitting at my computer waiting impatiently for it. Is it too just a BIT early?

Providing the new season DOES start on time, the Islanders will play in Pittsburgh on Friday October 12 and open the new season in Uniondale on Saturday the 13th against the Flyers. (Prepare for buses. Lots of them.)

Should the season not start on time... well... who knows...
