Leave it to Deadspin to find a raging error in a MSM broadcast. Maybe it was a cruel joke by a sports producer to make veteran sports anchor Rob Powers look like an absolute idiot. Maybe it was an honest mistake. Maybe it was photo-shopped by Deadspin author Timothy Burke. But there it is, an Islanders logo alongside the LA Kings logo during the sports broadcast with a very unflattering screen shot of Powers.

But as sad as the mistake is, it was the swipe at the Islanders that the writer took. I didn’t read the comments. I wrote for Deadspin for a few weeks. Their readers comments make the HockeyBuzz crowd look like love letters. So one more website making fun of the Islanders lack of playoff appearances. Boo Hiss!

Today the Islanders made another depth signing for the Bridgeport Sound Tigers by agreeing to a one year two-way deal with 26-year-old forward Blair Riley. Riley, who likes to wrack up the PIMs, was once named Inside College Hockey’s player of the week at Ferris State. The 6’ 200 lb BC native is another Scorpio, just like -- Matt Moulson. However, I don’t think this one will ever be nominated for the Lady Byng.

If we really can’t stand not having any hockey on the television, MSG has a cure. The “Summer Ice” series: Islanders Edition, will feature four of the best games of the 2011-2012 season. The episodes will air Saturdays at 8 p.m. beginning June 16. http://islanders.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=633439
