Hey everyone in Islander land. I hope you are all enjoying another snowy game day as I am home trying to fight off a pre-Christmas cold. Unlike the Islanders my “battle level” is always set to beast mode. As for our hockey team they face off against a very capable Tampa Bay Lightning tonight at the coliseum and for a New York team that cannot find the back of the net their reward is the giant Ben Bishop who is having a career year. It will not be easy sledding tonight.
The lineup itself stays the same with Casey Cizikas still out with a jaw injury and Colin McDonald and Matt Carkner will join him as the two healthy scratches. The Islanders must find a way to generate any form of secondary scoring. They desperately need Josh Bailey, Michael Grabner and Frans Nielsen to generate any kind of offense. Also look for rookie Ryan Strome to feel a bit more settled tonight. We saw some flashes in his debut Saturday; I expect to see some more tonight.
To say the Islanders need a win may be the understatement of the year but their needs to desperation. This team needs to play with pride and heart and grit now. For too many years we see this team rip off good stretches when the season is over in March. That is something that needs to be done now if there is any chance to try and salvage this ship wreck of a season.
As for some housekeeping news; the Islanders AHL affiliate; the Bridgeport Sound Tiger have released Jon Sim from his professional tryout. In fourteen games with the Sound Tigers, Sim collected two goals and two assists and was a minus five.
