The Islanders preseason began last night as New York spilt a pair of games with the Flyers. The important part of the games was that nobody got hurt. That's the last thing you need during the preseason.

The Isles "A" team filled mostly with NHL players defeated the Flyers in Brooklyn by a score of 3-2. John Tavares, Anders Lee and Kirill Petrov scored for the Islanders who jumped out to a 3-0 lead. Jaroslav Halak stopped 12 of 13 shots and young netminder Stephon Williams stopped 10 of 11 shots as the Isles scored twice on the powerplay.

From all accounts, Kirill Petrov was a beast and first round pick Mathew Barzal really had a strong game. It will be interesting to follow Petrov's progress throughout camp to see if he can win a job in the starting lineup for opening night. In Allentown Pennsylvania, a lineup of mostly Sound Tigers fell to the Flyers regulars by a score of 5-3. James Wright, Alan Quine and Justin Vaive scored for the Islanders.

In this episode of the Isles Buzz podcast we are joined by Brian Compton. Compton is the deputy managing editor for NHL.com and he broke down the Isles offseason and state of the team during preseason. As always for more on all things hockey please follow me on twitter at @DanDanNoodles78.
