Physical testing has begun as players go through in small groups. There's two full days of this before we pack it all in and head home, with only three weeks until the June Draft. A lot of excitement starting to build up for all the Draft Junkies, I bet. So what's going on? Here's some more tidbits...
- As
Kirk Leudeke has pointed out, it sounds like Seth Ambrosz has had a rough time with interviews. There's already been a lot of negative surrounding him; from his poor skating to talk of bad work ethic, and now he's come off 'unimpressive'. Wouldn't be surprised to see him fall even further.
- Both Mark McNeill and Tyler Biggs have been very impressive in the physical testing so far. - Both are in prime shape, with NHL ready bodies.
- Jamie Oleksiak almost knocked the vertical jump tower over. Then went and destroyed the V02 test. He's a beast.
- The Leafs have shown a lot of interest in two OHL boys at the Combine; Ryan Strome and Matt Puempel.
- Ryan Nugent-Hopkins is in very good shape for being a 'smaller' guy.
- Gabriel Landeskog and Mika Zibanejad were out shopping TO this week, and Landeskog was approached by a modeling agency while in H&M. Got a good laugh out of that one.
- As far as interviews, many teams have interviewed more players than a normal year. With the draft sounding so wide open, most teams are doing their due diligence and chatting with as many guys as possible.
- Mika Zibanejad will be meeting with Boston, Ottawa, Buffalo and NYI in their home towns for further testing and interviews following the Combine.
- All 29 teams met with Zibanejad, Detroit was the only one not to. Though they did meet with him earlier in Sweden.
