I am going to channel my inner Garth –

He had a way of bringing some fun to the blog, and I respected it. Whether it was through the iconic band Triumph dawned in their hockey jerseys, or Gord Downie radiating our sport on stage, he made us remember that there had to be a level of amusement in it all.

The sun rose in the east and it will set in the west.

All is well in Sabreland, patience must be had.

The dog days of summer get us restless, but it ends quickly and the live action comes fast.

To the mushroom guy, I am running out of diners with free wi-fi. Ordering a small coffee just isn’t getting it done. Your ear has already received the waitresses’ perspective, one step ahead of me always Batman. I have tried to hit on the salt and pepper shakers, but apparently you beat me out on that too. Can you let me know about one of the places that you don’t like, or can’t ride your bike to? I just want to feel human again with no hockey going on.

Lol, back to the title…

It is time to talk about one of our top defensemen. When we analyze our best two, one has to recognize that they are both 1st overall picks thrown into completely different situations. Make no mistake however, we are now blessed with top tier guys seizing the moment. With a few tweaks here and there, our defensive core looks to be one of the best for quite a while. We have two pillars that every team has to be aware of. Throw in a healthy Samuelsson on a favorable contract, and we are looking pretty solid. Dahlin took some time to develop because of the dysfunctional quagmire that he was immediately thrown in to. Language barriers, an enigma taking on all of the attention, whatever it was, the message he was receiving didn’t give him the confidence. There was a learning curve that flatlined for too long. It simply was not his fault. Granato and the organization has helped him evolve into the elite leader he was meant to be. He brings physicality and top offensive talent every time he puts the sweater on. Shockingly, I still think there is more upside. Hopefully in the near future he is locked up for years. You don’t let generational guys get away. Everything he has done shows that he embraces our city and his role on our team. Get it done Adams.

Who I am focusing on the other hand is Owen Power. Immediately being fit into the lineup, his impact was noticeable from the start. Finishing as one of the finalists for the Calder Trophy, he proved to us on a nightly basis as to why he was selected as the top player in his respective draft. With logging in 23.48 minutes of average ice time per game, the 6’ 6” rookie brought poise and control while enlightening us that he also has the ability to put up points as well. I would like to see a little more grit in certain situations, but I think he will learn that trait the more he gets acclimated. A few solid body checks chasing down a dump in would serve him well in front of the home crowd. Down the stretch with so much asked of him, he looked tired at times. With one more offseason of training, I am sure that we will see improvement on what was already a spectacular season.

We all want to see more of this.

Oh yeah, my inner Garth…

To Lyubushlin, Jokiharju, Bryson, and the rest of the defenders in our bottom six. We have the Power to move you. Our foundation is set. It's time to get competitive or lose your seat. When the music stops there are not enough chairs

Shout out to Zach Benson and his showing us his puck tenacity at development camp. He confirmed to us why he has the potential to be a solid NHL player. Can’t beat the mullet either.

Thanks –
