You ever watch the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series with your children? This blog is going to be short but I think you understand where it is going. Too many people on this squad have a “Loaded Diaper”. Young babies. Parents Kyle and Zemgus aren’t cleaning them up enough. After a lucky win, they came home to play the same team in their building on a Friday night. Two goals down in the first ninety-one seconds on home ice is not acceptable. The coach obviously didn’t have them ready, the veterans let them down, their goalie looked lost when the opportunity was there to seize the moment to solidify a rocky career. Back to the hamster wheel. Momentum has to be earned. This is not a big monolithic stone rolling down a hill gaining speed. It is a boulder being pushed across moderate terrain. It needs to be smoothed by a group of individuals who must count on one another to make it easier. Clean up the dumb mistakes.

Going to simplify it here. Going to have some fun. I hope we can bounce back against the Leafs. I am interested. I am going to watch. Stop letting us down. Back to one of my references… What was up with that last night??

Game 12
Buffalo Sabres, 5-6-0, vs. Toronto Maple Leafs, 5-3-2
Saturday, November 4, 2023 @ 7:00 PM – Scotiabank Centre

They shouldn’t be tired after last nights performance. The travel is non existent, and the rival is huge. Toronto has their issues with injuries and poor defensive play. A lot of star power up front that can score in bunches, but they do it by sacrificing back-end talent. This team can be beat with a forceful, quick, and tenacious start. They have to find the consistency in a simplistic game and let creativity and skill branch out from it. See the two loser points in the Toronto record? The posters on this site preach about them and they are not wrong. Good teams hang in there and get the consolation prize with a chance to win. These points become valuable at the end of the race when things are tight. They are also an indication of good coaching, and a recognization that sometimes the middle ground gets things done. It’s work-ethic and a mentality to make that extra stride throughout a contest. It solidifies that boulder.

Back to being silly. Please don’t chastise me for flatulent humor. Earmuff the kids. Tell them that their blogger was young once too. We need to laugh. It’s a long season. Don’t let the ship sink yet Sabres. Don’t let these early lessons be your icebergs. Forget last night, but today you can show us what you are made of. The greatest thing about a long NHL season is that early on there is always another chance to prove yourself. Shed the diapers. Inappropriately, I give you this. Don’t stay in the bowels of the Titanic…. This should have been Granatos' press conference last night. It is an easy summery of their slow starts.

Notes from hiding under the bed…

Granato and his line combinations are useful if the wins come along with them. If Jost stabilizes your bottom six keep the guy in the lineup. He plays a pretty good all-around game. Stick with some skilled combinations with your top forwards, a guy like Greenway is useful, but should be on the third line to improve your chances. Thompson, Mittelstadt, Skinner, Cozens, Tuch, Peterka. That is what you have right now. Figure it out and try rolling with it.

I would like to know your top three most hated teams when it comes to Buffalos’ opponents. Some of your perspectives generationally will be different, but these are mine –
1. Boston Bruins
2. Toronto Maple Leafs
3. Philadelphia Flyers
How about you?

Who do you think would win a tussle between Sabretooth and Gritty? The tooth has those fangs and the size, but Phillys’ guy looks like he has been in rehab a few times and could be ready to scrap…

What the heck is going on with Krebs? If I am not mistaken, I think he is still eligible to be sent down to Rochester. Perhaps a few games riding the bus might do him some good? Definitely a likeable guy but seems to be losing his way.

Thanks –
