WORLD JUNIOR SHOWCASE/ NATIONAL TEAM EVAL CAMP UPDATES
* Flyers prospects
Travis Sanheim,
Travis Konecny and
Nicolas Aube-Kubel are participating in the Canadian national junior team development camp and the World Junior Summer Showcase mini-tournament also involving the Czech and Russian national teams. The Canadians play the Russians on Monday (10:00 p.m. EDT).
Of the three players, Sanheim is the closest to a shoo-in for a spot on the Canadian team for the 2015-16 World Junior Championships. He is one of 13 defensemen in the summer camp. Konecny and Aube-Kubel are among a group of 24 forwards invited to the camp.
After opening their tourney schedule against the Russians, the Canadians play the Czechs on Tuesday (7:30 p.m. EDT), rematch with the Russians on Wednesday (10:00 p.m. EDT) and then finish with another game against the Czech Republic on Thursday (7:30 p.m. EDT).
* Flyers 2015 fifth-round pick
David Kase will be part of the Czech roster for the WJC Showcase. Kase was the captain of the Czech Under-18 team last year and also suited up with the Under-20 team at the World Juniors, so he is pretty close to a lock for a spot this year as well. The Czech team at the Showcase is missing several of its top players, including
Jakub Vrana,
David Pastrnak and
Pavel Zacha.
* Flyers 2014 sixth-round pick
Radel Fazleev was originally part of the Russian roster for the WJC Showcase but had to step aside due to an undisclosed injury. As with many of the top Russian players who are locks for WJC roster spots (assuming he's healthy and not playing in he NHL), Flyers 2015 first-round pick
Ivan Provorov is not participating in the mini-tournament.
* The National Junior Team evaluation camp in Lake Placid, NY, got underway on Saturday with Team USA Blue downing Team USA White by a 4-3 score. On Sunday, Team Sweden, featuring Flyers prospects
Oskar Lindblom and
Felix Sandström, open their schedule with a game against Team USA Blue. Game time is 4:00 p.m. EDT.
