1) Team Canada's national World Junior Championship (WJC) development camp will be held in Toronto starting on Saturday, July 30. A series of games against Finland, Sweden and Team USA will follow in Plymouth, Michigan from August 3-6. All games will be televised on TSN channels.

Three WJC-eligible Flyers prospects have been invited to the Team Canada camp: goaltender Carter Hart, defenseman Philippe Myers (currently rehabbing off-season hip/groin surgery) and forward Travis Konecny.

A member of the Canadian team at last year's WJC, Konency is close to a lock to make the squad again this year if he does not earn a spot in the National Hockey League with the Flyers. Hart, the youngest of the four goalies at the camp, may have to wait until next year to get his crack at a WJC spot but will try to put his best foot forward right now. Myers, when healthy, could be in the mix this year among the crowded field on the Canada blueline.

The game schedule is as follows:

Wed Aug 3: Canada vs. Finland (1 p.m. EDT, TSN)
Wed Aug 3: USA vs. Sweden (4 p.m. EDT, TSN)
Fri Aug 5: Canada vs. Sweden (1 p.m. EDT, TSN)
Fri Aug 5: USA vs. Finland (4 p.m. EDT, TSN2)
Sat Aug 6: Sweden vs. Finland (4 p.m. EDT, TSN2)
Sat Aug 6: USA vs. Canada (7 p.m. EDT, TSN4)

2) Today in Flyers History: July 28

1993: The Hershey Bears announce the hiring of Jay Leach as coach.

1998: The Flyers sign Notre Dame defenseman Mark Eaton to a three-year contract. On the same day, the club signs free agent forwards Mark Greig and Jason Zent. Wilmington native Eaton later becomes the first former member of the Little Flyers to play for the Philadelphia Flyers in the NHL.

2009: The Phantoms announce the hiring of Greg Gilbert as head coach.

Birthdays: The late Barry Ashbee, a member of the Flyers Hall of Fame and whose jersey number (4) is one of five that have been retired by the organization thus far, was born July 28. 1939. Sharing a birthday with "Ashcan" is mid-to-late-1990s Flyer goaltender and current New York Islanders general manager Garth Snow (1969).
