1) Recently selected Hockey Hall of Famer Eric Lindros tweeted out the following regarding the NHL Legends Classic at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto on Nov. 13.

Held in honor of the newly selected Hockey Hall of Fame class during induction weekend, Lindros will captain the NHL alumni squad (Team Lindros) against a Toronto Maple Leafs alumni team captained by Hall of Fame defenseman Börje Salming (Team Salming). John LeClair and Mikael Renberg will presumably skate as Lindros' linemates throughout the game.

While this is exciting news, I hope it does not preclude their collective participation in the Flyers Alumni vs. Penguins Alumni game scheduled for January 13-14. The latter would give Flyers fans a more realistic chance of seeing the Legion of Doom play together in person one more time.

Due to broadcasting commitments for Swedish TV for the 2011-12 World Junior Championships, Renberg was unable to play in the Alumni game at Citizens Bank Park during the 2012 Winter Classic festivities. Mark Recchi, another former Lindros linemate and a teammate of LeClair's as well during Recchi's second Flyers' stint, took Renberg's place on the line that day.

However, the Legion of Doom was fully intact when Renberg flew overseas just to attend the Flyers Hall of Fame co-inductions of Lindros and LeClair in November 2013.

2) Today in Flyers History: July 30

1993: The Flyers sign unrestricted free agent defenseman Jeff Finley to a one-year contract.

2003: The Flyers re-sign forward Justin Williams to a one-year contract extension and sign Slovakian forward Radovan Somik (originally a 1995 draftee) to a two-year NHL contract.

2005: The Flyers sign forward Stefan Ruzicka to an entry-level NHL contract. This day is also the belated 2005 NHL Draft, which was delayed by the year-long lockout that canceled the 2004-05 season. The Flyers trade down in the first round with the Florida Panthers, acquiring the 29th overall pick (Steve Downie) and a 2006 second-round pick (later transferred to Detroit, Cory Emmerton) in exchange for the first-round pick the Panthers use to select Kenndal McArdle. Additionally, the Flyers trade a 2nd round 2005 pick (Pier-Olivier Pelletier) to the Phoenix Coyotes for a 2005 fourth-round pick (Jeremy Duchesne) and a 2006 second-round pick (Andreas Nödl). Then the Flyers trade their 2005 third-round (Chris Lawrence) and fourth-round (Blair Jones) picks to the Tampa Bay Lightning for a 2006 second-round pick (later transferred to Phoenix and then to Detroit, Shawn Matthias).

2009: The Flyers sign unrestricted free agent defenseman Ole-Kristian Tollefsen.

Birthdays: Scrappy Russian defenseman Danny Markov (1976) and backup goalie Bruce Hoffart (1966) share July 30 birthdays.
