WiFi connection this year at the Coliseum is horrific. Delays aplenty for your blogger here. Had to scrap the pre-game live blog. We'll try again Monday on that one.

Isles leap out with 4 shots as the Stars continue their backpedal from NJ. Small crowd tonight, with many booing Avery with glee.

Penalty on Okposo for roughing

Isles on the PK, handing opportunity to Dallas to get off the snide. Dallas thanks then with 2 shots and a goal.

Eriksson with the PP goal. assist to Ribero.

Isles were all over the Stars and gave up momentum with a penalty. We are back to playing in the Stars defensive zone. Isles press again.

***Breaking news***

No wonder the food offering are better this season. they changed catering companies. Craft beer, wings, chinese food and other new offerings are here now.

This hungry boy took on the Fried Clams, which were a bit sparse. But not bad.

The parking for media is still very poor. they keep sending them into the same lot with fans. So at even 45 minutes before game time, there are only few spaces.

5 shots each.

Isles escape a two on one. Dallas is not firing on all cylinders. There is something not quite right. As for the Isles, they need to finish off better. Dallas are missing their legs right now, Isles MUST take advantage or be down 2-0.

Dallas is pressing now. They are shearing through the defense.

Dallas leads with 7 shots to 5.

Isles get two great opportunities, nice shots, but no dice.

However, they need to work on their transition game. Dallas heads down the ice and scores.

2-0 Dallas

Isles are just full of holes, and Dallas is finding their range.

Gervais leads in minutes thus far with just over 7. Campoli had 4:22.

Morrow with the goal, assist Ribero and Robidas, by the way.

Another Isles penalty. Bergie in a box.

This game had the earmarks of a offensive barnburner except, Isles can't get anything going. This Stars team is very vulnerable if the Isles could show some discipline and moxy.

Dallas scores again and the fans are not a happy bunch. The defense just folded in. I guess size does matter, Ricky.

You see, DP was quoted in a blog today by Chris Botta:

"“Sutts is great, but the size doesn’t matter as much anymore because you can’t hit guys in front of the net. Now it’s all about skating and mobility..."

Size does matter. Forwards need to pay and not push the defense around which they have been doing game after game. Mobility does count in the new NHL, but it must come with some ability to mete out hits and stand-up.

________

Just got a visit from Newsday's Jim Baumbach. We were discussing on what we were seeing thus far. One hopes the Isles come out this 2nd period with a bit more than the error-riddled slop that the 1st period was.

_________

Period 2:

The comeback? Or more bad vibrations from an Overspeed choking like a Volkswagon Bug with a banana stuffed in a tailpipe.

Isles flutter around the Stars zone for a bit, then they backpedal back to their own zone.

A scrum develops. Robidas and Avery head to the box. Bergie in the box for the Isles.

5 on 4?

One Blog Box cohort asks me: "If it becomes 8-0 will Gordon pull DP?"

You bet.

Robidas 2 for kneeing. Avery gets 4 for roughing. Bergie 2 for roughing.

Isles have two great chances...a third in but the net if off its moorings... and we go to a review.

No dice.

Stars get another penalty. Boucher. Crosschecking.

Turco is stonewalling . Isles are being screamed at to shoot. Puck leaves the zone twice.

Another review doesn't go their way. AND TOO MANY MEN ON THE ICE

It's that kind of night, folks

Witt hasn't been back on the ice. Had only 3:07 on the ice this game.

ISLES SCORE.

And it's true, the goal song cut out that awful "lets go Islanders!" Much better.

Goal by Bill Guerin. Assists by Bergie and Streit.

STARTLING STAT: Isles with 8 GIVEAWAYS this game. They should have given out t-shirts instead of pucks.

Stars score. 4-1 Dallas.

Fans jeer sarcastically as DP makes the next save.

Bergie with a banging hit and milling around the offensive zone. Nice shift. Hey, got to find the silver linings here.

STARTLING STAT: .789 SAVE PCT by DP. Ugh

Stars with 21 shots, Isles with 19.

Bergie has another visit to the box.

A disembodied voice tells me: Witt out for rest of game with the dreaded: Lower Body Injury

Dallas scores on another PP.

The biggest drama right now is wondering if Ricky gets pulled.

Is this going on in the lockerroom?

3rd period to this funeral dirge. Lots of fans left between the 2nd and 3rd.

Isles score on PP. Mark Streit.

5 to 2.

STARTLING STAT: 2 periods and 9 Giveaways by the Isles. Comrie leads with 3 of them.

Bergie and Guerin lead in shots. 4 each.

Streit with 22 minutes, and Gervais right behind with over 20.

Weight with an elbowing call. Just 9 min and change left.
