I really do feel bad for LaBarbera, but this Bernier kid is the real deal. Very exciting day of redemption for Kings fans. After beating the Cup Champs from way across town, yesterday we saw Lombardi's plan in action. The Kings are back and they are going to be ONE TOUGH TEAM to play against.

I REALLY like this Kings team. I know it is only a single game, and Kings should prevail over Ducks whenever playing in a monarchy, but yesterday you could see just how good Lombardi is at team building. It took a bit of patience for fans in LA, and having to endure the Ducks winning it all, but NO ONE will take the Kings lightly this year.

Bernier is also the perfect kind of story for lala land...One day into the season, but great stuff already....

Sources on Danny Markov.......

"He will be in someones line-up by week's end"
"Amazing that he has not been picked up yet, but they are banking on injuries..."
"He may just get the three years that has been holding the deals up."

I agree with the NY Post today that is saying the Devils are now a MAJOR player in the Markov sweeps...The injury to White is devastating to a team that has to endure a long road trip and is depleted already...

But don't rule out the pressure on Chiarelli in Boston to get this done as well...

long shot...an old favorite..Danny Markov.

So yesterday I got a phone call from one of my favorite people in all of hockey...

"Are you excited to get this going, Ek?" asked the still owner of the Nashville Predators, Craig Leipold.

"Absolutely! Finally something besides rumours to discuss!"

"Oh!" Craig yelled, sounding like he was at some kind of carnival, "Sorry Ek, I am at my second soccer game of the day. This one, for my oldest...And my son should have scored just there. He'll hear about that one all day."

"So what are you doing for the opener?"

"Well I still have the owner's box until October 31. But not to worry, I bought season tickets with the crazies in the upper section 303...my kids and I will still be Preds fans and we will be at all the games. You gotta love our team, and come the deadline these guys will have so much space and every option to add players for the run. There are two seasons. The Regular season and the playoffs."

"Just stay away from the Sharks!"

"Ha ha! You aren't kidding. Man they are tough!"

After the sale of the team I will do a big story about this guy. Craig is exactly how one of us would be if we owned a team. He is a huge fan and just lacks pretense.... and much that he has done for hockey in Nashville is largely unknown. Craig's role during the lockout has also gone undocumented. He is a big reason we have hockey at all right now........I asked him if what I was hearing yesterday regarding the sale being on solid ground was true.

He said it was, but of course, "Closings are closings. It is always touch and go. There is so much involved in the sale a of a pro sports franchise that you can't imagine. But I love working with this group. "
