“With the 7th pick overall the Chicago Blackhawks take…”

The tank watch continues as the Hawks fall to the Vancouver Canucks 5-2 last night. There’s not to say about the game itself, but a couple of things I wanted to touch on:

1) There is a major confidence issue on this team right now and there’s no bigger area that needs a hug more than the goaltenders, Berube and Forsberg. They haven’t had much help, however, they haven’t done themselves any favours either if they are looking to claim the backup role for next year. I believe there will be a major evaluation in the offseason, and depending on the health of Crawford, we could see a more significant addition in net then expected.

2) I don’t care that the team is losing; I just want to see effort and some signs of chemistry as the Hawks close this season off. I’m a little concerned however that some of the younger players or guys that should be auditioning for next year look like they are as uninterested as some of the veterans on this team. There was one point I looked and Hayden, Hinostroza and Martinsen were just standing still in defensive zone, casually swing sticks like they were in a pick-up rec skate. I would like to see a strong effort from guys like that.

The IceHogs appear to be bringing in some reinforcements for their remaining games. Victor Ejdsell and Joni Tuulola slated to join the team to help with the playoff run. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Ejdsell get a call up to the Hawks so they can get a look at him against NHL talent.

Joni Tuulola joins a crowded blueline but has been playing some really solid hockey this year. He finished 30 points in 58 games which was an offensive boost compared to the year prior. This was due to the fact he switched teams and earned a top 4 spot with PP time.

The ‘Hogs have a crowded blueline next year as well with a lot of guys under contract already. It seems that Stan is (/has been) loading up and they will have to make a decision on some of these guys. Also, it signals that there could be more changes to the top 6 that are playing in Chicago right now.

Rockford push continues tonight as they play Milwaukee at home. They then take on Chicago tomorrow. That game is on home ice as well.

See ya out there!
