Sources have confirmed that the Blues are very close to signing 2007 first round pick David Perron. A deal is imminent at this point and an announcement could come as early as the next day or two.

Blues fans can expect to see Perron in training camp next month. At 19 years of age Perron is too young to be assigned to the Blues AHL affiliate in Peoria and the club would have until October 2nd to send the junior star back to Lewiston of the Quebec League.

If Perron makes the Blues roster out of camp he could play up to nine games without affecting his service time as an NHL player. If he plays 10 or more games he would lose a year of his entry level deal.

Perron is looking for a maximum entry level deal including all A and B level bonuses.

There is a provision in the CBA that would allow Perron to receive his signing bonus plus additional money from the Blues even if he is sent back to Junior.

Perron is a flashy offensive player with high level puck skills. He was Canada'a top offensive player in the second game vs. Russia in the Super Series. The 19 year old was the Blues third of three first round picks the team had in 2007.

More to come,
