QUICK HITS: SEPT. 12, 2017

1) On Day 2 of the Flyers Rookie Camp, players engaged in a variety of battle drills in the trenches as well as forechecking and one-on-one isolation. One of the highlights of the session was defense prospect Philippe Myers stopping Nolan Patrick cold in a one-on-one rush. Patrick ended up on the ice, Myers ended up with the puck.

2) Forward line combinations on the second day were similar to Day 1. Defense pairings rotated frequently. One oddity is that, among the seven defensemen in Rookie Camp, four are righthanded shooters. The forward lines, which are likely to be close to the combos in Wednesday's Rookie Game at the Wells Fargo Center, were as follows:

GRAY: Connor Bunnaman - Nolan Patrick - Nicolas Aube-Kubel
ORANGE: Oskar Lindblom - German Rubtsov - Pascal Laberge
YELLOW: Isaac Ratcliffe - Morgan Frost - Matthew Strome/ Maksim Sushko
BLUE: Anthony Salinitri - Mikhail Vorobyev - Ivan Kosorenkov
GREEN: Carsen Twarynski - Mike Vecchione - Radel Fazleev

3) Over on the Flyers official website, I authored articles on Nolan Patrick's offseason surgery rehab process and notes and quotes from Day One of Rookie Camp.

4) Tomorrow's Rookie Game at the Wells Fargo Center will be streamed on the Flyers' official site. Brian Smith will handle play-by-play duties. I will be doing color commentary in addition to filing a post-game report for the Flyers' official site. This is my second-ever game broadcasting gig. On Sept. 11, 2009, I did the Flyers vs. Capitals Rookie Game from the Skate Zone in Voorhees.

5) There will be a 10 a.m. morning skate on Wednesday at the Skate Zone in Voorhees ahead of the Rookie Game. The Rookie Game participants will skate on the Phantoms' Rink while the veterans in camp will skate on the main rink.

6) Gord Murphy and Kerry Huffman will be the coaches behind the bench for the Flyers Rookies in Wednesday's game.

7) Over the last few days, the vets in camp have been undergoing testing on the Flyers' rink. After today's session, I had the opportunity to speak, among others, with new Flyers Brian Elliott and Jori Lehterä as well as returnee Dale Weise. More on them in upcoming blogs when the main camp gets underway.

8) Flyers Alumni defenseman Jeff Chychrun (whose son, Jake, plays for the Arizona Coyotes) was on hand Monday at the first day of Rookie Camp. Actually, much of the defense corps from the Flyers team that reached the Wales Conference Final in 1989 was present: Flyers assistant coach Gord Murphy, defense development coach Kjell Samuelsson, Phantoms assistant coach Kerry Huffman and Chych. All that was missing were Mark Howe, Terry Carkner and Jay Wells.

9) Condolences go out to the friends and family of Joe Angelotti. Joe, who was the godson of Flyers Hall of Fame defenseman Ed Van Impe, passed away over the weekend.
