The Calgary Flames have announced GM Brad Treliving has signed a multi-year contract extension with the club.
Here is an excerpt from the press release with quotes from Brian Burke and Ken King.
“We are striving to create a level of continuity and stability, as all successful teams do,” said Flames President of Hockey Operations Brian Burke. “Today’s announcement is another step forward for our organization on that path. Under Brad’s leadership, we have seen progress over the past three seasons and look forward to building on that growth in the coming years.”
...
“Brad has done a good job in leading our club and has clearly earned this reward,” said Calgary Sports and Entertainment Corporation President Ken King. “We have great faith in our hockey operations structure and we look forward to continued and improved results.”
Over the last couple weeks, there has been plenty of speculation about Treliving's future with the team. Ownership was not pleased with the playoff showing and there were rumors Craig Conroy, who the organization seems very high on, could be in line for the job. Obviously, those can be put to rest with a new deal in Treliving's back pocket.
Re-signing Treliving was definitely the smart thing to do. He has made no shortage of quality moves (acquiring Dougie Hamilton, signing Micheal Frolik, signing Kris Versteeg, drafting Matthew Tkachuk, etc.) during his time in charge and the good far outweighs the bad. Not every GM can say that, which is why re-signing Treliving was the right thing to do.
