Capitals: Oshie Back, 15 Games and First Place

IN a development that should surprise no one, the Captials are 3-0 since trading for Kevin Shattenkirk.

Shattenkirk picked up his first point as a Cap, assisting on the game-winning, over-time goal by Nick Backstrom in Saturday's 2-1 victory over the Flyers.

It was an impressive game, as the Capitals shut down the Flyers' power-play a half-dozen times and finished the week 3-0, allowing just two goals.

T.J Oshie returned for this game after missing the last four. According to what I just say on TSN, Ovechkin and Backstrom combined for one point in his absence.

It's actually hard to believe that the price to acquire Oshie was just a Troy Brouer and a 3rd round pick. In light of last weeks also way under priced trade with St. Louis, it's worth wondering if the Blues secretly want the Capitals to win the Cup.

Oshie - you might be interested to learn - has been one of the most consistent players in the NHL during his career. This is his ninth season in the NHL, and if you account for injuries and lockouts, he pretty much has averaged 20 goals and 60 points in every single year.

Though the Capitals won three of four without him, they are a much, much better team when he's in the lineup.

After the Flyers game, the Capitals have 95 points. Seven up on their closes Eastern competition and five up on the Wild for the President's Trophy.

The Capitals play the Stars tonight and it's at home, so they'll be putting their 15 game home winning streak on the line.
