Sidney Crosby is the 86th member of the 1,000 point club. He is the 12th fastest/youngest player to achieve this mark. He is also the fastest active player beating out Jaromir Jagr by six games.

The point was recorded on a hard working assist that was fittingly finished off by his most common linemate during his career, Chris Kunitz.

Here is the call from legendary broadcaster, Mike Lange.

There have been many sequences over the years that have played out just like that. Sidney Crosby just overpowering a bigger player by skillfully using his center of gravity. That was Blake Wheeler he outmuscled.

Here are some Sid stats

Jen Bullano who does PR for the Penguins put together a really great brochure about Sidney Crosby reaching 1,000 points which you can find here

I remember watching the draft lottery back on a Friday in July way back in 2005. Teams were slowly eliminated and each minute felt like an hour as the Penguins were still alive. Ultimately, Pittsburgh won the lottery and it wasn't five minutes later before I went to Wegmans and bought a 30 pack to celebrate what felt like the team being saved. It's now 12 years and 1,000 points later. Time flies.

Nobody is happier than Sid to have the milestone in the rear view mirror. Not because of pride, but because he doesn't have to talk about it anymore.

This accomplishment is incredibly impressive considering the era that Crosby plays in. The goaltending, defensive schemes, and poor officiating have all contributed to fewer and fewer goals being scored each year. For Crosby to still be the 12th fastest to achieve this milestone is remarkable.

Pittsburgh has been blessed to have Sidney Crosby as part of their hockey team and more importantly their community for the past 12 years. Congrats Sid, you're the best and here's to many more.
